Ledgewood Farm and Kennels:
Preserving the Heritage of the English Shepherd
Twenty-four years ago, my journey with English Shepherds began. In 2006 Tucker, my heart dog, came into my life. As the offspring of Dersam’s Sparkplug, he embodied everything a heritage English Shepherd should be—an intuitive and biddable natural herder, fiercely protective of his home while maintaining a steady, reliable nature. Tucker was not only an invaluable partner on the farm, but also a trusted companion, gentle with children and small animals.

In early 2010, my path led me to a tri-colored female pup from Cimarron English Shepherds. After many conversations with breeder Elaine Reynolds, it became clear that this pup, Gracie, would be an excellent match for Tucker. Gracie carried the traits I valued—grit, an unwavering shepherd’s watchful eye, and an innate ability to work. She was highly biddable, making training a joy, and possessed the intelligence and adaptability essential in a true working English Shepherd. Despite our hopes, a successful breeding between Tucker and Gracie was never realized.

Years later, the search for a female to carry on these exceptional traits led me to Maci. She traces back to Gracie’s lines and immediately stood out as a prime candidate to continue the legacy of heritage English Shepherds at Ledgewood Farm and Kennels.

Ledgewood’s Maci of Yarbro
Maci is a clear sable and white English Shepherd with all the hallmark qualities of a well-rounded farm dog. She is:
-
Gentle and trustworthy with children and small animals
-
Respectful of livestock, making her an asset on the farm
-
Highly intelligent, with a natural shepherd’s watchful eye
-
A dedicated perimeter guardian with excellent situational awareness
-
An enthusiastic vermin eradicator with a keen nose
-
Biddable and eager to work, whether helping with farm chores or engaging in play
-
Athletic and versatile, excelling at frisbee, fetch, hiking, and kayaking
-
Health tested, PennHip certified, MDR1 clear, and registered with the English Shepherd Club (ESC)

Shepherd’s Haven Rocky
To complement Maci’s drive and athleticism, I sought a stud who would bring balance and reinforce the breed’s best qualities. Shepherd’s Haven Rocky was the ideal choice. As a shaded sable and white English Shepherd and a grandson of Dersam’s Sparkplug, Rocky offers:
-
Unwavering loyalty and natural protective instincts
-
An exceptionally biddable and easy-going temperament
-
A calm, steady disposition with a lower prey drive
-
A strong bond with children, making him an ideal family dog
-
Athletic ability while maintaining a laid-back nature
-
Genetic testing clearance, MDR1 clear, and ESC registration

With the pairing of Maci and Rocky, we aim to produce well-balanced, intelligent, and versatile English Shepherds that carry the legacy of Tucker, Gracie, and the foundational lines that define this remarkable breed. Our goal at Ledgewood Farm and Kennels is to preserve and enhance the heritage of the English Shepherd, ensuring future generations continue to embody the intelligence, loyalty, and adaptability that make them exceptional farm dogs and beloved companions.
